Stefan Karlsson on tour in US, Japan and China with Eddie Gomez

Latin Grammy-winning bassist Eddie Gomez (double bass), known best for his years with the great pianist Bill Evans, brings his trio on tour to US (pianist Stefan Karlsson and drummer Rodrigo Villanueva), Japan (pianist Stefan Karlsson and drummer Billy Hart and China (pianist Stefan Karlsson, drummer Billy Drummond and trumpeter Xiaochuan Li).
Eddie Gomez is known for his flexibility and quick reflexes that make him an ideal accompanist. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, he grew up in New York, performing with the Newport Festival Youth Band in 1959-1961. By 18, he had already performed with Buck Clayton, Marian McPartland and Paul Bley. After studying at Juilliard, Gomez played with McPartland, Bley, Rufus Jones` sextet, Giuseppe Logan, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Gerry Mulligan, among others. After hearing the young bassist at the Village Vanguard, Bill Evans invited Gomez to join his famed trio(1966-1977). Eddie has since worked with many top artists, including filling in for Charles Mingus (1978) and playing with Steps Ahead (1979-1984), Benny Wallace, Joanne Brackeen, Jack DeJohnette and Chick Corea. Gomez has also performed in classical and pop settings, including as guest artist with TheKronos Quartet, Tashi Ensemble, Japanese marimbist Mika Yoshida and clarinetist Richard Stoltzman. At Carnegie Recital Hall, Eddie premiered a work writtenspecifically for him by William Thomas McKinley. Among pop artists, Gomez has worked with Bobby Darin, Carly Simon, Art Garfunkel, Michael Franks, Judy Collins and "The Gadd Gang", Steve Gadd`s all-star R&B/jazz band. In addition to serving as a studio musician, Gomez has recorded for Columbia, ProJazz, Stretch and Bebyne Records
